Resolving DNS Issues on Your Kiosk
If your kiosk is having trouble connecting to the internet, Stripe payment terminal, or other online services, the issue may be related to your DNS settings.
Follow the steps below to update the DNS settings and run a connectivity check.
1. On your payment terminal
Change the DNS settings
- Swipe to the right on the payment terminal.
- Select Settings.
- Enter the PIN: 07139.
- Select Network.
- Select your existing Wi-Fi network.
- Scroll to the bottom of the network settings.
- Change DNS Settings to Custom.
- Select Add Server and enter:8.8.8.8
- Select Add Server again and enter:8.8.4.4
- Select Save in the top-right corner.
Run a diagnostic test
Once you've updated the DNS settings, check the terminal's connection:
- Swipe to the right.
- Select Settings.
- Enter the PIN: 07139.
- Select Advanced.
- Select Diagnostics.
- Scroll down and check the following:
- DNS Resolution
- Stripe Connectivity
- Terminal Events Connectivity
Each of these should show Passed.
2. On your kiosk
Next, update the DNS settings on the kiosk.
Open the kiosk network settings
- On the kiosk screen, double-tap the top-left corner.
- Then double-tap the bottom-right corner.
- When prompted, enter the PIN:5151
- Select your existing Wi-Fi network.
Change the DNS settings
- Open the settings for your existing Wi-Fi network.
- Select the option to edit or modify the network.
- Open Advanced options if required.
- Change the network/IP settings so you can manually enter DNS details.
- Set the DNS servers to:
- DNS 1: 8.8.8.8
- DNS 2: 8.8.4.4
- Save the changes
3. Place a test order
Once you've updated the DNS settings on both the payment terminal and kiosk, place a test order.
Check that:
- You can proceed through checkout.
- The payment terminal connects to the kiosk.
- The payment request appears on the terminal.
- The payment can be completed successfully.
If everything is working, no further action is required.
4. Still having trouble?
If the test order still doesn't work, restart the payment terminal:
- Power off the payment terminal.
- Power it back on.
- Allow the terminal to reconnect to Wi-Fi.
- Place another test order.
