What is a Platform fee?

Learn what the Platform fee covers, when it's charged, and how to choose whether your business absorbs it or passes it on to customers.

The Platform fee is a usage-based fee that covers the infrastructure, security and support behind your customers' ordering experience. It's only charged on successful orders, and you choose who pays it: your business, or your customers at checkout.

Why there's a Platform fee

Bopple gives independent hospitality businesses the kind of technology that global franchise brands build in-house. Much of it comes with no separate charge. Keeping it fast, secure and reliable has real running costs: hosting, fraud protection, customer verification, support, and ongoing design and development.

The Platform fee covers those costs in line with how much your customers use your platform. When you're busy, it scales with you. When you're quiet, you pay less.

Effortless from the first tap
Customers can sign in with Apple, order easily on any device, and schedule their order ahead. Customer profiles remember them, so coming back is quicker every time.

Protected from the start
Built-in fraud analysis, customer verification and secure sign-in help protect your customers and your business on every visit.

Always on, always improving
Unlimited web hosting, ongoing maintenance and continuous product updates keep your platform fast and reliable. Our team keeps designing and building new features, and they're added to your platform as they're released.

  • You only pay when it works. The Platform fee is only charged on successful orders. There is no "Platform fee" when a sale isn't successful, such as an incomplete checkout attempt due to insufficient funds or high-risk user account.

  • Refunded in full. If you reject an order, or cancel and fully refund it, the Platform fee is refunded in full.

  • You decide who pays. Absorb the fee, or pass it on to your customers at checkout. You can choose for each store.

How it works

How much it costs

The Platform fee is a small fee on a successful customer order. You can see the current rate for your stores in Back Office under Billing. Rates may change from time to time, but we are (and have always been) aligned to your growth and goals.

If you pass it on

When you pass the fee on, your customers always see it clearly:

  • It appears as a line item from the moment they view their cart.
  • It's shown clearly to your customer, before paying.
  • It's shown including applicable taxes.
  • It's the same whichever payment method they use.

How to choose how it is handled

  1. In Back Office, go to Billing and select Platform fees.
  2. You're in control, easily toggle the setting on or off. Changes take effect immediately for your consumer-facing platforms, e.g web, mobile and any kiosks or other digital experiences powered by Bopple.
