If you're seeing undesirable selection rules on modifier sets when integrated with Square, read on.
In the example below, you only want these two modifier sets to have optional selections, based on the needs of the product. However, for some reason they are behaving as required selections.
Check Bopple Back Office
If you go into Bopple Back Office ➜ Menu ➜ Modifiers, you'll see that the POS has provided rules of Min 1 / Max 1. These settings have been imported from your Square POS modifier setup.
Resolve the issue in Square
There are two ways to solve this issue, depending on your preferred or required modifier rules.
1) If you don't really need to enforce a maximum selection of 1
Simply disable the "Customer can only select one modifier" setting on the modifier set.
- Go to Square Dashboard ➜ Items ➜ Modifiers
- Select the modifier set in question (see below)
- Scroll down to the Settings section
- Disable the Customer can only select one modifier setting
- Go to Bopple Back Office ➜ Menu and import your menu
This setting on modifier sets in Square is a little confusing. The name suggests it only restricts the maximum selections to one, but it also applies a required selection of 1 (this is noted in the grey text under the name of the setting)
2) If you really do need to enforce a maximum selection of 1
You'll need to override the minimum selection rule for the modifier set on the items where you don't want to force a selection.
- Go to Square Dashboard ➜ Items ➜ Item Library
- Select any item that uses the modifier set in question
- Scroll down to the Modifiers section
- Tap the "three dots" beside the modifier set and then select Customise
- Set the Required Modifiers to 'None', and set the Maximum Modifiers to whatever you need it to be.
- If you need to apply the same customised rule for this modifier set, select Apply This Configuration to Other Items and then select the items in the modal that appears.
- Once you're done, click Save
- Go to Bopple Back Office ➜ Menu and import your menu
